The map features nearly fifty castles and chateaux, offering something for everyone—from uncovering history to enjoying peaceful castle parks.
“Highlights include the elegant Veltrusy Chateau with its picturesque park, the charming Vrchotovy Janovice Chateau showcasing Czech bell-making, and Nelahozeves Chateau, a rare example of a preserved Renaissance estate. Also featured are the fairy-tale Krakovec Castle, the ancient Český Šternberk Castle overlooking the Sázava River, and the legendary Kokořín Castle,” shared Jakub Kulhánek, Director of the Central Bohemia Tourist Board.
The map includes brief descriptions of twenty sites, links to websites, and a legend with symbols to simplify trip planning and enhance the experience. It is available digitally in Czech, German, English, and Polish. Printed versions will be available early next year at the inforamtion center on Husova Street in Prague.
Winter-Ready Castles and Chateaux
While many castles and chateaux close during winter, several remain open, including Brandýs nad Labem Chateau, Kačina Chateau, Radim Chateau, and Český Šternberk Castle. Visitors can also explore Berchtold Chateau, Mníšek pod Brdy Chateau, Veltrusy Chateau, and Červený Újezd Castle. Favorites like Karlštejn Castle and Křivoklát Castle stay accessible year-round, along with Mělník Chateau, the Central Bohemia Museum in Roztoky, and the Podblanicko Museum at Vlašim Chateau. “Most sites are open on weekends, Dobříš Chateau from Wednesday to Sunday, and Loučeň Castle daily,” noted Kulhánek.
