Central Bohemia Records Its Best First Half-Year Yet

Central Bohemia is attracting an increasing number of visitors. In the first half of this year, 601,000 guests stayed in accommodation establishments across the region, the highest figure recorded since 2012. Compared with the same period in 2025, this represents an increase of 9,700 guests. Domestic visitors continued to make up the majority, while Germany, Slovakia and Poland remained the strongest international markets, joined increasingly by visitors from the United States.

According to data from the Czech Statistical Office on guests staying in collective accommodation establishments, the region made a strong start to the year. Visitor numbers rose particularly sharply in February, by 8.6%, and in March, by 6.1%. Growth gradually slowed in the following months.

One positive development is that, across the entire first half of the year, the number of overnight stays increased faster than the number of visitors. Guests therefore spent slightly more time in Central Bohemia on average than during the same period last year. In the second quarter, however, this trend reversed and the average length of stay decreased slightly.

“Visitor numbers confirm that the Central Bohemian Region is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Czechia. We are pleased not only by the growing number of domestic visitors, but also by the interest of international guests who come to discover our historical monuments and natural attractions. Every visitor contributes to local restaurants, accommodation providers and other services. We therefore see the increase in visitor numbers as positive news for the economy of the entire region, and we want to continue investing in tourism development and supporting projects that provide visitors with high-quality services and compelling reasons to return to Central Bohemia,” says Václav Švenda, Central Bohemian Regional Councillor responsible for culture, heritage conservation and tourism.

With the arrival of spring, interest in visiting Central Bohemia also increased. While the region accounted for 4.2% of all guests staying in accommodation establishments in Czechia in January, its share had risen to 6.6% by June. Across the first half of the year, Central Bohemia accounted for 5.6% of all visitors in Czechia, placing it sixth among the country’s regions.

In most months, more guests arrived than during the same period last year. February recorded the strongest year-on-year growth, at 8.6%. Only January and May saw slight declines, with visitor numbers down 2.0% and 4.1% respectively year on year.

More Tourists Also in the Second Quarter

Between April and June, more than 399,000 guests stayed in collective accommodation establishments in the region, the best second-quarter result since 2012. This was approximately 1,300 more visitors than in the same period last year.

Guests spent more than 831,000 nights in the region in total, slightly fewer than a year earlier. Both April and June produced record results. Almost 107,000 guests stayed in the region in April, while visitor numbers rose to more than 154,000 in June.

“The latest figures confirm that interest in Central Bohemia is growing. We also see significant potential in international markets. Our goal is to encourage visitors to stay in the region for longer, discover lesser-known places and make use of the diverse range of experiences Central Bohemia offers throughout the year,” says Jakub Kulhánek, Director of the Central Bohemian Tourism Board.

May was the only month to slow the overall result for the second quarter. Although almost 138,000 guests visited the region, making it the second-best May result since 2012, visitor numbers fell by 4.1% year on year. Overnight stays followed a similar pattern, decreasing by 4.9% in May. By contrast, the number of overnight stays increased in both April and June.

Central Bohemia also strengthened its position significantly compared with other regions. In the second quarter, it accounted for 6.3% of all visitors in Czechia and moved into fifth place among the country’s regions. This represents a clear seasonal increase compared with the first three months of the year, when Central Bohemia accounted for 4.6% of visitor numbers and ranked eighth. The rise was particularly noticeable during the spring months. Visitors stayed an average of 2.1 nights in the region.

More International Visitors

Central Bohemia is becoming increasingly popular with international visitors. Domestic guests still account for the majority of visitors, representing almost 79% of all guests staying in the region in the second quarter. Their number, however, decreased very slightly year on year, by 0.3%.

International tourism showed the opposite trend. The region welcomed 2,400 more international visitors than in 2025, an increase of 2.8% year on year. International visitor numbers have now been growing for six consecutive years, and this year’s figure represents the best second-quarter result ever recorded.

Germany remains the region’s strongest international market, accounting for almost one-third of all foreign visitors. Visitors from Slovakia and Poland follow. Interest from the Polish market continues to grow, with 6.2% more Polish visitors arriving in the second quarter than during the same period last year.

One of the most notable trends this spring has been the growing number of visitors from the United States. The number of American tourists increased by almost 46% year on year, placing the United States among Central Bohemia’s six most important international source markets.

The spring months also brought changes in some of the region’s more traditional international markets. While visitor numbers from Austria increased significantly during the winter, the trend reversed in spring, with Austrian arrivals falling by 19.4% year on year. Slovakia also recorded a slight decline, while the German market remained virtually unchanged compared with the previous year.

“We target neighbouring international markets systematically and over the long term. Alongside our own marketing campaigns, cooperation with CzechTourism is also crucial, helping us strengthen Central Bohemia’s visibility abroad. At the same time, we are seeing growing interest in our region among international journalists. This year alone, more than 130 representatives of foreign media have visited Central Bohemia through press trips. Coverage generated by these trips generally appears within several weeks or months, meaning that their impact on awareness of the region builds gradually over time. This is precisely how we are developing long-term recognition of Central Bohemia as an attractive, easily accessible and diverse destination,” adds Veronika Štičková, Head of Marketing at the Central Bohemian Tourism Board.
