Kutná Hora: 30 Years on the UNESCO List
One of the most significant events of the year is the celebration of 30 years since Kutná Hora was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, under the theme “UNESCO Unites.” Throughout the year, the city will host a variety of events. Starting January 10, visitors can enjoy the Quietly Striving for Beauty exhibition, showcasing traditional crafts and folk art. In March, the Festival of Light will illuminate historic sites across the city. June will bring the A Day of Sound music festival at the Central Bohemian Gallery (GASK). Sports enthusiasts can look forward to August’s UNESCO Run, a highlight of the traditional Dačického 12 race, which will include routes from St. Barbara’s Cathedral to the Sedlec Cathedral and back. A Night Run for Světluška will also be part of the festivities. Additionally, GASK will debut an open-air exhibition in its gardens this spring, complemented by a new bistro for visitors to enjoy.
Discover Nature on Educational Trails
Nature lovers can look forward to several revitalized and new educational trails. In April, Beroun will reopen the Václav Talich Trail, guiding visitors through Talich Valley and introducing them to the life of the famous Czech conductor. Nearby, the Discover Hýskov trail will take travelers through the rich history and natural beauty of Hýskov. This trail includes two short circuits that highlight archaeological finds, Celtic heritage, and local legends.
New trails are also being developed in the Toulava region. In Prosenická Lhota near Sedlčany, a scenic loop around Jelito Pond will lead visitors through wetlands rich with protected plants and wildlife. In Kňovičky, the local farm is creating a farmer’s educational trail, while Mnichovo Hradiště will launch a path connecting the train station to the castle.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance I and II
The globally acclaimed RPG game from Czech studio Warhorse is releasing its second installment this year, bringing its hero, Henry, to medieval Kutná Hora. Fans can look forward to themed trails, guided tours, and other activities in the city. Rataje nad Sázavou, a location from the first game, will also surprise fans with an escape room inspired by the game’s story.
New Public Harbors
Water tourism on the Elbe River is set to become even more enjoyable with the opening of new public harbors. Starting this spring, small motorboats can dock for free for up to 48 hours in Kolín and Brandýs nad Labem. A new harbor in Nymburk will follow in the summer, offering services such as water and electricity access.
Expanded Pilgrimage Trails
The St. Ludmila Pilgrimage Trail will be extended to connect Mělník, the birthplace of St. Ludmila, with Tetín, where she lived and died. Similarly, the international St. Gunther‘s Trail will expand through Central Bohemia to Břevnov Monastery in Prague, the legendary resting place of St. Vintíř.
Mining Museum Mayrau: Tracks of Coal and Iron
The Mayrau Mining Museum in Vinařice near Kladno is restoring its railway siding and narrow-gauge tracks, with new sections set to open this spring. During the main tourist season, visitors can enjoy regular train rides, providing a glimpse into the region’s coal-mining heritage.
Improved Elbe Cycle Path
Cycling enthusiasts will appreciate two new high-quality asphalt sections of the Elbe Cycle Path. Once completed, they will connect Tuháň, Kozly, and Kostelec nad Labem, creating a 30-kilometer stretch of uninterrupted cycling. Sandy beaches and clean ponds along the route will make it even more appealing for summer outings.
New Exhibition at the Mladá Boleslav Museum
The Mladá Boleslav Museum recently unveiled its new interactive exhibition, Castle, Landscape, and People. Opened on January 18, it offers insights into the history of Mladá Boleslav Castle, the aristocratic families who lived there, and the castle’s evolution over the centuries.
Modern Barn at Kouřim Open-Air Museum
A new entry building resembling a modern barn with a thatched roof is under construction at the Kouřim Museum of Folk Architecture. Scheduled to open by the end of the year, the center will feature a ticket office, refreshments, a museum shop, and cyclist facilities.
Beroun: Celebrating 760 Years
Beroun is marking 760 years since its first recorded mention with a series of celebrations, culminating in an open-air concert on Hus Square on June 24.
Ryba’s Year 2025
This year commemorates the 260th anniversary of composer Jakub Jan Ryba’s birth and the 210th anniversary of his death. A variety of cultural events are planned, including the 8th Annual Jakub Jan Ryba Festival. The festival will open on May 16 with the debut of Ryba’s rediscovered oratorio, Judgment Day, thought to have been lost.
Revamped Exhibits at Mělník Museum
The Regional Museum in Mělník is revitalizing its exhibit on the town’s winemaking heritage. Visitors can look forward to video mapping by Petr Raist Šťastný, bringing Mělník’s rich history to life.
New Winery in Český Ráj
This spring, a family winery in Jivina near Mnichovo Hradiště will open a new building for visitors. In addition to tasting exceptional wines, guests can purchase regional products from local farmers and artisans.
